We love to bike, too. We bought our bikes at Sports Authority at end of season sale.
If you want to try out biking, renting at Central Park is a good way to ease into it!

Ringwood State Park has a short but good mountain bike trail. We enjoyed that recently.
I got a book on biking with kids in NJ and want to check out Liberty State Park next.

I think Bikes by Jake recently opened in Edgewater, too...
