Namaskaar

namaskaar englewood njEnglewood is now the home to Namaskaar, an Indian restaurant, which recently moved from Route 4 where Mantra is currently located. First thing you’ll notice is the lack of parking on Grand Ave. Upon walking in, you’ll notice the small room filled with happy customers cramped in small tables. I guess, I’m being sort of picky but the previous location was huge with ample space for large groups or a romantic date. One plus, is in April, the outdoor seating becomes available and who doesn’t like eating under the stars?

As you may have guessed, I’ve been to Namaskaar a few times before the big move and every time I left stuffed and content from a great meal. I did not leave feeling the same way this time. We brought our own wine (a plus) and we were served water in stainless steel glasses (kinda felt like royalty). The mixed vegetable pakora was just like I remembered, lightly battered and flavorful. The main portions were small, boring and left something to be desired. I was sad, because what I remembered, the dishes were not this plain. The naan was OK, the rice was OK, but the food’s presentation was better than the food itself.

I also dislike having to ask the waiter for a check. I’m sad that Mantra took Namaskaar’s location, I’m sad that Namaskaar isn’t as good as it used to be, I’m sad that Bhoj charges for rice and I’m sad that I can’t find a great indian restaurant in Bergen County.

What do you guys think? What’s your favorite Indian restaurant in Bergen?
