Green Grill Restaurant in Hackensack offers a crazy lunch special – for $10.95, you can get all-you-can-eat sushi and Brazilian barbeque, as well as fresh salads, a variety of hot foods, and soft-serve ice cream (one of my favorite treats). Brazilian barbeque, or rodizio, is a selection of meats freshly grilled and brought to the table in skewers. The waiters then slice the meat at your table, as much as you’d like. True, the selection of meats is downsized for the lunch special, but you still get all the staples – flank steak, chicken wings, plump sausages, California rolls, and chicken teriyaki.
The restaurant puts an Asian twist on the traditional Brazilian barbeque. It offers a good number of sushi and rolls, even some vegetarian options. You can find kimchi next to the Brazilian salsa-type sauce (to accompany your barbeque) in the salad aisle. The sushi here comes in sizes a tad smaller than what you may be accustomed to – but all the better, you can try them all without bursting your stomach! The sushi is decent; it may not be the top notch quality, but it is all-you-can-eat. Next to the sushi, you will find a selection of hot foods: cooked vegetables, rice and beans, fries, chicken tenders, and soup. If you can manage to snag them on time, try the Korean ribs (galbi) that are served on the grill next to the sushi aisle. You can also find a seafood salad, asparagus, a Caesar salad, and edamame beans at the buffet.
To start feasting on the meat, you turn the switch so the green part faces up (the waiter explains all this to you); when you are satisfied and can fit no more, you turn the signal so that the red part faces up. The selection of meats is downsized for the lunch specials. The fancier delicacies like quail and rib eye are offered at dinner ($27). Chicken wings, plump sausages, bacon-wrapped-turkey, chicken teriyaki, and flank steak on skewers come around to your table. All of them are good, but be sure to save room for the steak – it is marinated in a Korean marinade and is really good. The chicken teriyaki is worthy of attention too, so be sure to try that out.
If you have room for dessert, head over to the soft-serve ice cream machine, or take some sliced fruits on your plate. You can order coffee, tea, and cakes too, but these will be added to your buffet cost.
Feasting on sushi and rodizio doesn’t have to take a chunk out from your wallet! In my opinion, Green Grill offers one of the best lunch deals around the area, so check it out – the restaurant’s lunch hours are from 11.30am to 2.30pm, Monday through Friday.
