I recently discovered Bubble Tea aka Boba while visiting Los Angeles and I have to say that I fell in love with it. What is Bubble Tea/Boba anyway? The answer to that is easy. Simply, it is tea with tapioca balls. You can read more a more in depth article over there.
I was apprehensive at first because of the unusual combination of ingredients (milk, fruit, tea, tapioca, etc), but don’t mock it until you try it and below is where you can try some bubble tea in Bergen County.
Green Papaya (River Edge) is a Asian fusion restaurant with flavors from Thailand, China, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Singapore. I have not eaten there yet, but I’ve been there a few times for Bubble Tea. Both my girlfriend and I decided that it’s awesome there and highly recommend it. I’ve had both the cold milk and fruit tea with tapioca but not the hot tea yet. You can actually check out Green Papaya’s tea selections on their website.
They are super friendly too. I was given such a warm, almost in your face welcoming upon opening the door, but it’s because they are excited about their restaurant. It did not scare me away, in fact, it made me go back a few times for tea. Try the strawberry fruit tea (no milk) and you’ll LOVE IT!
Mitsuwa (Edgewater) is a Japanese market with mini stores in the large space. After purchasing some food (wasabi rice cracker, tofu & udon) we headed over to find the Bubble Tea. I ordered a blueberry milk tea and the girlfriend had a green milk tea. The tea was ehhh and the boba was sort of stale and too chewy. Oh well, maybe next time I’m near there it will be better. That’s not going to keep me away from the bomb ass market though!
I have not been to the following places yet, but I’ve either read or was told about them.
Sago Tea Cafe – Garden State Plaza Mall
Taipei – Teaneck
Have you had bubble tea from any of these locations or know any others?
