If you are Bergen County resident you know of the tight-knit and close community we are privileged to reside in–everybody knows your name. This closeness of our community is matched with its support to it’s resident. Support groups in our county are available and initiated commonly by volunteers who have personal experiences in the subject of the group’s focus. If you are someone who knows is suffering from a disease, addiction, depression, or any other debilitated affliction, a support group might be right for you.

Perhaps you are feeling anxiety, fears, anger, or depression. Emotions Anonymous 12-Step, offers meetings for sharing experiences, hopes and strengths in order to gain better emotional health. Donation are $2 a meeting. Hackensack meetings are Tues. and Thurs., 7:30pm at the First Presbyterian Church, 64 Passaic St. 1st Floor. Are you or someone you know struggling with an eating disorder? In some instances, eating disorders are really not about food or eating, but rather about underlying issues with which an individual is unable to manage. Support groups are available the 3rd Saturday of the month from 10:00 am to 11:30 at the Hackensack Medical Center, Hekemian Conference Center. A $5.00 donation is requested.
Maybe not as prominent as eating disorders, trichotillomania (compulsive hair pulling) is popular in children and teens. The NJ TTM Support Group for Children, Teens and Parents supports these children and their parents. These support groups meets monthly at the St. Catharine’s Church, in Glen Rock. Family Support Organization of Bergen County provides support, advocacy and education to families and caregivers of children with complex emotional and behavioral challenges; families are welcome and this organization offers childcare assistance. DBSA (Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance) Bergen offers support for bipolar or unipolar disorders and their families and friends. This group offers phone help, guest speakers, rap sessions, and buddy system and newsletter. Meeting are Thursdays, 7:15pm, at the Bergen Regional Medical Center, Psych Pavilion, Room E007, at 230 E.
