I’m writing this right now because the steam is still coming out of my ears!!! I have been a Bergen County resident since May. I had an extremely difficult time leaving Hoboken after 7 years. Living there for almost a decade I must admit I was spoiled. I was able to walk to restaurants, the gym, and the nail salon was in my building. Needless to say in these past 7 months I have been searching for my new niches. I struggled with finding a nail salon, but was told that Angel Tips in East Rutherford did a nice job and was reasonably priced. I have been there two times prior to this afternoon. I should have left today when I saw the girl next to me was waiting to get her manicure fixed because her tips (fake nails of some sort) were popping off. However I had been there before and already drove the 10 minutes in the freezing cold. Well, Michelle (so not her real name I am sure) seemed to rush through my pedicure. She did an average job, I’m sure I’ve had worse. When it came to my manicure I selected a lighter pink color, Pound Cake by Essie, however not too sheer. She thought this color was not a good choice and offered me a sheer color. I told her I did not like her choice, which seemed to offend her. This was after she tried to sell me a $35 manicure, a 10 minute massage, and an eyebrow wax. Wow, do I look that bad? Anyway, I guess she really hated my color so decided it would be a good idea to put one coat of my color choice, and one coat of her color choice on top. This was her biggest mistake because she did not do a good job of getting my dark nail polish off of my nails and when she put her sheer coat on top it did not cover the dark remnants, which she should have removed initially.
When I complained, she did some crazy thing with nail polish remover that did nothing. When I asked to speak with a manager she told me she was the manager. So I said I did not think this was a decent manicure and thought she should fix it. That’s when she began to yell at me in a different language. She told me to show it to some other girl. The other girl did not look up from what she was doing until her client told her to see how gross my nails were. She did the same stick in nail polish remover trick. I finally gave up and said to forget it. When I turned around to tell Michelle that I had never been treated so poorly in any type of salon she said, “Okay, bye.”
Granted this is not the end of the world, and though I am disappointed that I have to find yet another niche in this county, I am more upset with how I was actually treated. Just thought I might get Angel Tips to lose a client other than myself.
