When it comes to rock music New Jersey is bit of a paradox. From pop stars such as Bon Jovi and Bruce Springsteen to headbangers “God Forbid” and “The Dillinger Escape Plan”, the Garden State is no stranger to stardom. Taking that into consideration one would think that New Jerseyians of all ages would be flocking to their local clubs to take a gander at the future of original music, but on the contrary it is very difficult for local acts to gain a following. Perhaps we are a bit spoiled by all the big name artists who can be seen in the city or the Meadowlands on a regular basis, but for whatever the reason may be, local bands are struggling.
Fortunately though there are people new acts can turn to for help, and that is hardworking promoters such as EvilGirl Entertainment. The “Evil Girls” Paige Davis and Kate Lewis have been organizing shows and promoting live original music since 2005. Both them and their crack soundmen Jim Gizzi and Will Lewis are musically inclined themselves so they have a personal understanding of what bands are going through and looking for in a show. They have an ever growing assortment of acts under their wings that range from heavy metal to indie rock and have worked with some big names such as metal legend
Marc Rizzo from Soul Fly, Chris Barron from the Spin Doctors and the up and coming acoustic artist Sean Faust.
The shows are always fresh and creative sporting a variety of bands mixed with other festivities such as raffles and vendors or even theme nights where people are encouraged to dress up. There is always something unique to keep things interesting with good music and good times always at the forefront. The Evil Girls have a full schedule of shows coming up in the Bergen County area so check out their Myspace at www.myspace.com/evilgirlentertainment.com to see when and where they are. And if you are in a band it behooves you to look into working with them. It does not get any more straightforward and down to earth then EvilGirl Entertainment.
